          Melocactus levitestatus grows with bright stems gray-green to dark green, that reaches a size of 15 to 68 centimeters in height and a diameters of 14 to 30 centimeters. The cefalio is composed of bright red bristles and measures up to 18 centimeters in height and has a diameter of 7 to 12 centimeters. The flowers are red on the outside and magenta in the interior.
